Fishing Report

With the Brown Algae bloom in Mosquito Lagoon the Reds have push up really shallow in the grass or they moved in the the deeper cuts that have water flow. To target these reds get out early and throw a topwater plug, if you want to use live baits buy some pigs or croakers in the deeper water. The fishing has been hot at Ponce Inlet for just about everything. Reds, Trout, Flounder, Snook, Snapper, Jacks, Lady, and Blues can all be caught in Finger Mullet, Mud Minnows or live shrimp. Also the sharks are in the inlet; Black Tip, Bonnethead, and Bull are cruising the shallows looking for food. Most of them are in the 2-4 foot range. Run a 18-24 inch thin wire leader with some fresh cut fish and crab. The Halifax River is still producing a lot of fish in the Ormond Beach area. These fish are up skinny early feeding on small crab and shrimp then moving to the deep structure feeding on mullet as the sun comes up. Capt. Todd is reporting that the Tomoka River has been on fire. Snook have been going crazy with the influx of mullet. There have been some good quality snook too. Redfish have also been consistent. The reds have been mostly slot fish with an occasional over slot. Big jacks and tarpon have shown up crashing on schools of mullet. Mangrove snapper have been feeding good still. All in all Tomoka has been great fishing. Now if we can get this wind to lay back down to get out there and keep catching them. F.Y.I. Snook season is now closed until Sept. 1
