July Fishing Report

Fishing is still great in the Ormond Beach area. The Halifax River and Tomoka Basin are producing Trout and Redfish. The best way to catch them is on live croakers and pig fish free line them or under a float. The Redfish bite has been better on the out going tide and the Trout bite is better on the incoming tide. Find the oyster bars with just a little bit deeper water and thats where the fish are holding.

Capt. Scott of “Bad Juju Charters” is on the big Sheep Head up to 9lbs using a fish finder rig and shrimp.

Donald of Don’s Bait and Tackle in Port Orange said those fishing around the Dunlawton Causeway are bringing up whiting, flounder, big croakers and mango snapper. Toward Ponce Inlet, Donald said flounder are being snatched “all throughout the river.” “And there’s those over-sized redfish being caught in the inlet,” he said. “Some of those big ones are being caught in the backwaters, too.” White shrimp are starting to run the river in the Daytona Beach/Holly Hill area and they are moving south toward the inlet. “The shrimp are on the way,” Donald said. “It will be cast net season any day now.”
